About

The City of Rock Springs is the largest city in Sweetwater County with a population of 23,350 (2015 census).  Rock Springs is the principal city of the Rock Springs metropolitan statistical area, which has a population of 44,175.  Rock Springs is located in southwest Wyoming along Interstate 80.

Location

Rock Springs is located off Interstate 80 approximately 3 hours North West of Salt Lake City.

Local Businesses

Sweetwater County is known for its rich mineral deposits which include oil, gas, coal and trona.  The county also includes the huge coal-fired Jim Bridger Power Plant.  Major employers include Genesis Alkali, Halliburton Energy Service, Tata Chemicals, Solvay Chemicals, Bridger Coal Company, Union Pacific Railroad, Black Butte Coal Company, BJ Services and Church & Dwight.

Education

Rock Springs is home to Western Wyoming Community College.
